Access to Doshisha Biwako Retreat Center

Doshisha Biwako Retreat Center is located in the side of Lake Biwa, in the north of Kyoto. The nearest station is Kita-Komatsu (JR Kosei Line), about 45-minute train ride from JR Kyoto Station. Suggested routes to JR Kyoto Station from airports throughout Japan are listed below.

Transportation — from Airport to JR Kyoto Station

From Kansai International Airport (KIX)

■ 75 min. JR Airport Express Haruka, fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass

These Kyoto-bound trains run every half hour in the morning and evening, and every hour during daytime hours. You need to make reservations prior to boarding for seating in either Coach (Ordinary) or First (Green Car) class. Ticket purchases and reservations can be made at JR Kansai Airport Station (fare JPY 3,370).
If you go directly to Doshisha Biwako Retreat Center, buy a through ticket from KIX to Kita-Komatsu (fare JPY 3,980).

■ 95 min. JR Rapid Service, JPY 1,880

Take the Kansai Airport Rapid Service train to Osaka Station and change trains to a Special Rapid Service train for Kyoto (every 10 to 15 minutes).

■ 105 min. Airport Limousine Bus, JPY 2,550

Take Airport Limousine Bus from platform 8 every 30 to 60 minutes between 5:00 and 22:00.

From Central Japan International Airport (Centrair) (NGO) in Nagoya

■ 95 min. Train, about JPY 7,000

Take the Meitetsu μ-SKY Limited Express to Nagoya Station and change to the Shinkansen bullet train for Kyoto Station.

From Narita International Airport (NRT)

■ 3 hours 15 min. Shinkansen bullet train, JPY 16,690

From Narita Airport, take the Narita Express to Tokyo Station and change to a Shinkansen bullet train for Kyoto Station.

■ 70 min. Airplane to Osaka

From Narita, fly to Osaka International Airport (ITM). From Osaka International Airport, take the airport limousine bus to Kyoto (55 minutes, JPY 1,310).

* An airport bus from Narita to Tokyo Haneda Airport (travel time 100 min, fare JPY 3100), where up to 30 flights a day connect with Osaka International Airport.

From Tokyo International Airport (HND) in Haneda

■ 60 min. Airplane to Osaka

From Tokyo International Airport, fly to Osaka International Airport (ITM). From Osaka International Airport, take the airport limousine bus to Kyoto.

■ 3 hours. Train

From Tokyo International Airport, take the Keikyu Line going toward Shinagawa station, and get off at Shinagawa Station, and change to a Shinkansen bullet train for Kyoto Station.

Transportation — from JR Kyoto Station to Venue

To Kita-Komatsu Station from JR Kyoto Station

■ 33 minutes by Special Rapid Service or 45 minutes by local train

Take the JR Kosei Line, bound for Nagahara, Omi-Imazu or Tsuruga – NOT Katada and Omi-Maiko.
Most of the trains depart from track No.2 or No.3 at JR Kyoto Station.

Take a free shuttle bus to Doshisha Biwako Retreat Center
at Kita-Komatsu Station (JR Kosei Line)

Go out the ticket gate and take a free shuttle bus just in front of Kita-Komatsu Station. The bus will operate only on Aug. 1st, at 12:30, 13:00, 13:30 and 14:00. If your arrival will be not on this day, please let us know in advance. We'll organize an additional temporary bus.

It takes about 25 minutes on foot from Kita-Komatsu Station to Doshisha Retreat Center.

ISSCG-11(2001) was held at the same venue of Doshisha Biwako Retreat Center. The school facility has not changed much except for the planting of a camphor tree, by the participants during the School to commemorate the event.
